I always knew O meant "Yes" and X meant "No" in Japan since I first played MGS. Something later reinforced when I started importing games.

What I never understood was why they changed that up for American games.

Maybe because our "A" is always at the bottom?

The square represents Paper which corresponds to menus. Odd thinking but I like there was actually meaning behind these buttons.
