1 Why aren't there any good gaming phones? on February 5th 2010, 12:35 am

No one has made a great gaming phone. Sure, Apple sells lots of iPhone games but have you ever tried to play a first-person shooter or football game on an iPhone? It's not a terrible experience but it's nowhere near as good as playing those types of games on a Nintendo DS or Sony PSP. As for why Nintendo or Sony hasn't released a gaming phone yet is beyond us but the demand for a device that bridges the gap between a smart phone and a portable gaming console is definitely there.

Some time ago Nokia tried to fill this mobile gaming gap with N-Gage, a mobile phone range that mimicked gaming devices. The problem with N-Gage though was that it was way ahead of its time and Nokia could only offer users Java-based distractions rather than full-on gaming experiences. After lacklustre sale figures Nokia dumped the N-Gage handset range and instead focused on gaming software and do-it-all smart phones but we think it's time for Nokia to make a gaming comeback.

Our Ovi Orion concept is an evolution of N-Gage handsets, it is a phone/platform offering with a heavy slant on gaming. In other words, if the iPhone is Wii, then Ovi Orion would be Xbox and offer Xbox Live style features. A serious gaming phone for serious gamers.

Do we really need a "gaming" phone? Seriously, it's a phone, you want to use it for it's functionality(as in, it's ability to do anything you want it to to make your life easier). Another reason why a gaming phone wouldn't be a good idea for a while, is because a very powerful phone that's as small as a phone should be, that isn't a hog on batteries and doesn't die within 3-4 hours of any powerful game, probably couldn't be made yet. And if it could, it'd cost a huge amount of money. I'd be for it, but only once technology is good enough, and it's cheap enough that us mere mortals can somewhat afford the thing.

I for one would never buy a gaming phone. Why you ask?
Because I have a DS and I would never pay a monthly fee for service I don't use very often, and on top of the monthly fee you have to buy $30-$50 games for a crappy handheld system that would cost around $250,AND Nintendo and Sony don't like the idea of joining sides with 3rd party Companies to make a system (Except the Triforce that Nintendo Capcom and Namco made).
Microsoft might do it though, and it could happen soon with Microsoft's new Windows Mobile OS coming out.
I still think it's a bad idea.

They actually do have a battery that can last for atleast a week on a full charge, even on something that demanding,NUCLEAR BATTERIES! There completely safe too, most people think OHMYGODNUCLEARISJUSTFORKILLING,These use Nuclear cells to power devices once the cell dies and is drained of energy, you recharge it and the cells come back to life at full power, and so far the prototype is the size of a penny and can keep a regular phone charged for a month on a single charge!

*GASP COUGH COUGH GASP* I NEED AIR! :Oh No:

This exactly. Their main purpose is that of communication, and they're only just properly moving onto simple entertainment functions (being able to play music, for one). I don't think they need to think about gaming facilities until they've got the kinks of the main functions ironed out first (no flash player for internet WTF).

That's what I think too. No one complains about not being ale to use a DS as a cell phone.

I'd rather to just have both a DS and a phone in my pocket, to be honest.
